“How do I attend a prison powwow?”

There are a couple ways to attend a DOC powwow. One thing to keep in mind is, unlike a powwow in the community, DOC powwows have limits on the number of people who can attend due to lack of space. Because of this our program prioritizes family, dancers, and drummers as guests to attend.

Family members and friends of our incarcerated brothers and sisters:

Step One:   To visit a loved one you must be on their regular visit list. To get added to your loved ones visit list fill out an online application at: https://washingtondoc.wufoo.com/forms/r19abi5r0x75gnm/

Other visit information can be found at: http://www.doc.wa.gov/corrections/incarceration/visiting/resources.htm#forms

Step Two:     Once you are added to your loved ones regular visit list, they will need to add you to the Powwow Guest List as their guest to attend the powwow.

Dancers and drummers can get cleared to participate in DOC powwows two ways:

1. Contact Winona Stevens at winona@nativereentry.org or 253-212-9227 to submit information for security clearance

2. Contact the facility chaplain at the prison powwow you wish to attend to submit information for security clearance:  http://www.doc.wa.gov/corrections/incarceration/prisons/default.htm
